The LabTrac Client Module is only available for Windows. It locks a computer in a modified Login screen until a student logs in with an ID. The visits to the computer are communicated to the server for tracking and reporting data. Installation of the Client Module is quick and easy.
To install the LabTrac server, see FAQ04-0001 or consult the User Guide.
Installing the Client Module from CD
Insert the LabTrac CD into your computer. The computer should automatically run the setup program from the CD. Given the choice between installing the web server and the client software, select the client software installation.
The installer will prompt you for an installation directory; the default is called 'LabTrac' and will be located in the Program Files on the root hard drive. You will be prompted for a Program Group to add items to; the default will be LabTrac. LabTrac will then be installed on the selected directory and items added to the selected Program Group. The computer does not need to restart after installation.
The first time that LabTrac is run, it prompts you for the IP address of the server machine. The IP address links the Client Module to the LabTrac server for the communication of data. The Client Module will not work if unable to find the server.
After entering the IP address of the server, LabTrac will prompt you for an administrator name and password. Administrative privileges are required to install and setup the Client Module. The default administrator user name is 'admin' and password is 'admin'.
A center is required to complete the Client Module installation. Choose an existing center from the list or create a new center from this page then click Choose Lab. Visits from this computer will now be linked to the chosen center for reporting purposes.
