Installation of FitnessTrac is a simple process. The installer will prompt you for an installation directory; the default is called 'FitnessTrac' and will be located on the root hard drive. FitnessTrac will then be installed to the selected directory. The computer does not need to restart after installation.
Insert the FitnessTrac CD into your computer. The computer should automatically run the setup program from the CD. If the setup program does not automatically run, open the CD and locate the setup program. On a Windows system, execute the application called 'setup.exe'. On a Macintosh system, simply run the 'setup' feature.
The setup program describes the installation process and reminds you that you need your Product ID, Server ID and Installation code to run the program for the first time. After installation, the setup program automatically launches the FitnessTrac web server application.
The first time that FitnessTrac is run, it prompts you for a Product ID and Installation code. The Product ID identifies your application. The Installation code unlocks your FitnessTrac by linking it to the server computer.
The Product ID is located on a sticker on the back of your CD case. The Installation code may be obtained from Redrock Software via email at techsupport@fitnesstrac.com. Provide the Server IP Address and the Product ID when requesting your Installation code.
The Installation code, Product ID, and Server IP Address are linked together. The web server software now belongs to this machine and will only operate on that machine. If it is necessary to change server machines, you will need to change the new computer's IP Address to the original machine's IP Address, or purchase an additional copy of FitnessTrac.
The FitnessTrac software turns a computer into a web application server. Quit all other software before installing FitnessTrac on the server machine.
FitnessTrac should be run on a dedicated server machine. The machine may be a Pentium class machine running Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP or an Apple Macintosh running OS 8.5/9/or X. The machine should be dedicated to the purpose of running the FitnessTrac server software only. However, if the machine is sufficiently fast enough, it may also be used to run a web browser application (like Internet Explorer or Netscape) to log students in and out of the center.
In some situations, multiple web server applications may need to be hosted on the same machine. This process is called multi-homing and is supported by FitnessTrac. In these cases, you would need to set each web server application to serve on a different port number. Typically, web-pages are served off port number 80. When you enter a web-site's address (like: http://63.224.138.140) you do not need to indicate the port number. However, if the server is serving on a different port number (like 81), you need to provide the port number as part of the address (like: http://63.224.138.140:81) for port 81.
To change the server port for FitnessTrac, first, open the Prefs.ini file in the FitnessTrac folder. Locate ServerPort=80. Change 80 to '#' (new port #) to serve FitnessTrac on port '#' (new port #).
